Want to taste some splendid Croatian wines? Want to do it for free? Well then head to Byerly’s in Chanhassen tomorrow (Friday, July 9th) at 3pm. Leslee Miller from Amusee Wine will be on hand to tell you everything you want to know about wine and probably a little more.
Here’s a map of Croatia in case you don’t know where it might be found on a map. It’s the pink one right in the middle.

This beauty is parked out in front of the Von Hanson’s meat market in downtown Chanhassen. I’m hoping that it will make an appearance in the 4th of July parade.
UPDATE: The bratmobile did NOT make an appearance in the parade. A real shame.

Chanhassen didn’t get much from the storms that rolled through the Twin Cities on Friday night, but they did bring some interesting clouds. See the before and after…

Haskell’s has thrown their hat into the ring in the liquor store market in Chanhassen. Right now there are four liquor stores that I know of in Chanhassen: MGM, Cheers, Century and Byerly’s. I really don’t know if a town of twenty-some thousand people needs a fifth liquor store, but what do I know. They are building along the frontage road on the north side of Hwy. 5 and just east of Hwy. 101. Across from McDonald’s. Although, I have a feeling that Haskell’s is really going after the Eden Prairie customers, Bearpath especially, that right now have only Eden Prairie municipal stores in their town. While Haskell’s won’t be all that much closer to Eden Prairie than MGM or Cheers it might be all they need to get that market. It’s not the most convenient location though. Unless you are buying some plants or trees from Lotus Lawn and Garden you won’t really be driving over there. It does look like they are trying to get somebody else to move in over there with them though based on the construction sign.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it does.

I made my first purchase from Von Hanson’s Meat Market this evening. A pound of ground beef. Yeah, not real exciting, but it was needed for tacos.
As soon as I got into the parking lot I could tell it was busy. I walked in and saw that many other people had been anticipating this opening as well. Despite the large number of customers they were ready and had plenty of people working behind the counter and quickly helped anybody who was ready to order. They even had a special going: Buy 1 pound of bratwurst and get 1 pound free. The employees all seemed friendly and eager to help. I was surprised to see that they had other things besides meat in their store. They had pizzas, onion rings, some vegetables and more. Next time you need some meat I suggest you give Von Hanson’s a try.
Oh, and the tacos were delicious.

The new owners of the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres made a surprise announcement on Thursday when they released a statement indicating that the Dinner Theatres will close. The owners plan to re-open as a night/dance club.
Here is the official statement:
“It is with a heavy heart that we have decided that the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres will close it’s doors on April 30th, 2010. After much debate we have decided that we will pursue other ventures in this location. We feel that the combination of food and shows has run it’s course and has no room for growth. So it is with great anticipation that we announce Chanhassen will be home to the southwest metro’s first night club. We will open on June 1st, 2010 with the new name on the building: RumpShaker’s. We will have something for everyone, including three dance floors and six full service bars. Any tickets purchased for shows after April 30th will be refunded completely.”
So that’s that…..
April Fools! The Chanhassen Dinner Theatres will NOT be closing and WILL continue to provide dinner and theater. Now, I realize that you might not be reading this on April Fools Day, but I’m writing it on April Fools day so it’s legit.
The new owners will be making a few small changes however and you can go here to read about the real changes: The New Chanhassen Theatres

Thanks to the well above average temperatures this week I took my first bike ride of the year tonight. Much earlier than last year. I’m sure I’m not the only one taking advantage of the 70 degree temps, so I thought I’d put up a link to the trails in Chanhassen. There’s so many trails to explore I encourage everyone to get out and walk, run, bike, skate or whatever on Chanhassen’s great trail system.
